Paper planes launch KidsMatter Primary!

On Friday 11 September, 305 students at Lakelands Public School, south of Wollongong, celebrated the launch of KidsMatter Primary. Every child had decorated a paper plane with a positive message for another student. During the whole-school event everyone launched their plane and collected another student’s plane. It was a way to demonstrate the focus on being inclusive and the importance of wellbeing in the school community.
Staff provided students and families with lots of free activities such as face painting, a photo booth, chalk drawing, hair spray and a sausage sizzle. Families were encouraged to play with new sporting equipment. Rebekah Mallam, one of the teachers said, ‘This was such a positive afternoon for our whole school community and relationships were strengthened across staff, students and families.’
The school engaged a local urban artist to create a mural for a wall. The mural features the KidsMatter message and families were able to watch it appearing on the wall during the afternoon. Rebekah says, ‘We LOVE what Anthony Jones, the artist has created!’
